Telephone Number Regulations

It has been very easy to apply Local telephone numbers to VoIP calls for areas that your business does not operate, to appear to your clients that you have a more local presence than you actually have. You can easily present a Manchester 0161 number using VoIP when you are based in London to appear to your Manchester customers that you have a local office.

Ofcom and the ICO have regulations in place to make this behaviour unlawful. You now must have a physical presence in a particular area code to be able to present Local numbers from that area code in your telephone calls. It is your responsibility as a business to ensure that you are familiar with Ofcom and ICO regulations before ordering any Local numbers from ourselves, or any other provider.
